School sweethearts, Connor Teasdale and Hannah Mundy (now Teasdale!) loved sharing their experience and here’s how they felt about their big day!
Can you tell us how you met?
We met at school and have been together ever since.
Tell us about the proposal…
We had planned to go out for a meal in Durham. I arrived at Connor’s house to find candles and flowers everywhere, champagne poured and Ed Sheeran playing in the background. Connor said he had bought me a present that day, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I cried! I found out later that he had asked my parents permission before hand so everyone knew but me. We celebrated with family, friends and more champagne.
What made you choose Wynyard Hall?
We were looking for a traditional but show stopping venue and after looking around several venues in the region, we went to a wedding fayre at Wynyard Hall and immediately fell in love with it. As we wanted a church style wedding, the stunning chapel was the icing on the cake.
What is your favourite function space and why?
Our favourite room was the Statue Gallery. The stained glass ceiling and chandeliers really give the room the wow factor, however it still managed to feel like an intimate space to be with our guests. Also, the string trio that were playing for us sounded amazing in the space.
What colour scheme, theme or flowers did you choose?
We chose a nod towards Alice in Wonderland as it is Connor’s favourite book and I had seen some amazing tree centre pieces which I thought would look fantastic and fit in with the Wonderland theme. We kept the colours neutral, having the bridesmaids in latte coloured dresses and we carried wild, antique coloured flowers.
What wedding menus did you choose? What was special about the food and service?
We had a selection of canapés and for the wedding breakfast we enjoyed butternut squash soup, pork belly and lemon tart. The service was second to none and the attention to detail given from the staff was superb.
How many guests did you have?
There were 100 guests with an additional 30 guests joining us on the evening.
What was your Wedding Coordinator like to work with? Were there any staff who particularly stood out on the day?
Our Wedding Coordinator Emily, was a pleasure to work with. Nothing was too much trouble. Special thanks must go to our Master of Ceremonies who ensured our day ran smoothly and made sure we were all well looked after.
What did you do the day or night before your Wedding?
Connor and his family spent the evening before the wedding in one of Wynyard Hall’s private cottages. I spent the evening before with my parents and Maid of Honour ensuring everything was prepared for the following day.
Tell us about the dress… What style was it? Where was it from? What did your bridesmaids wear?
My dress was nothing like I had originally planned. I always expected to wear a big ball gown however the dress that I chose to wear was a one of a kind Ronald Joyce mermaid style lace dress with long sleeves and a train. There was also an additional tulle train that I wore for the ceremony.
The five bridesmaids all wore multi-way dresses and each had them tied in a style of their choice to best suit them. We wanted them to love what they wore and felt this was a nice way to do that.
What did the groom wear, and where was it from?
Connor and the other men in the bridal party wore blue Ted Baker suits which were hired from Moss Bros. The men had plain ties that complimented the bridesmaids’ dresses while Connor wore a Ted Baker print tie and pocket square in the same colour scheme.
Tell us about your wedding photos… which one was your favourite and why?
The photographer that we chose was Carro Studio. We loved the style of photography! So many of the photographs were gorgeous, however one of our favourite images is of us sharing a moment together outside the Hall. The picture showed off my dress, flowers and hair, Connor’s suit, the grandeur of the venue and the love that we felt throughout the day.
Tell us about your entertainment…
To entertain our guests, we asked a duo from Leeds, Mark and Abi, to play for us. We enjoyed their acoustic style and loved how they put their own unique spin onto well-known songs – the dance floor was never empty. They got everyone involved and the eclectic mix of songs had something for everyone! We also had a disco to follow and a photo booth which everyone adored.
And your honeymoon?
We travelled to Thailand a day after the wedding. We spent 11 nights in a 5 star luxury hotel and enjoyed travelling around Phuket and seeing the sights including elephant tracking and visiting the historic Temples.
Was there anything extra special or unusual about your wedding?
We chose songs for the day which reflected our personalities and relationship. The string trio played Adele-Make You Feel My Love as I walked down the aisle and we exited the church with them playing Bruno Mars-Marry You. We were also introduced to our guests as Husband and Wife to Beyoncé-Crazy in Love! Our first dance was to Adele-One and Only because we felt that the song said everything we wanted to say to each other.
Do you have any wedding planning tips?
I had a clear picture in my mind of what I did and didn’t want. Once my mind was made up that was it. I would say that websites such as Pinterest are fantastic for getting ideas if you are struggling or want a way to show a supplier the kind of things you want, however try not to get too overwhelmed with the amount of images. You want your wedding to be personal to you, not a replica of something online!
Would you recommend Wynyard Hall to other couples?
I would! The food was amazing, the staff were so helpful from start to finish and the Hall itself is simply breath-taking!
