Real Weddings: Yasser & Suzannah

Bride and Groom in Wynyard Hall's Chapel

We asked newly-weds Suzannah Clark and Yasser Baghdadi (now the extremely happy Mr and Mrs Baghdadi) how they felt about their big day at Wynyard Hall.

The couple met nine years ago through a mutual friend. They were engaged to be married in exotic Riviera Maya, Mexico, in 2013. Yasser proposed as the sun went down on a secluded beachfront and had written ‘Suzannah Clark, Will you marry me?’ in the golden sand. He’d arranged champagne on ice, scattered rose petals, chocolate dipped strawberries and a stunning Tiffany engagement ring. That’s what we call true romance!

The couple were married on 7th August 2015, a glorious summer wedding at Wynyard Hall. Later, we asked them how they felt about their experiences. Here’s what Suzannah and Yasser have to say, in their own words.

The perfect Wynyard Hall Wedding

Q: Where did you get married?

A: “When we discovered Wynyard Hall we knew that we would get married there instantly. It was the only venue we looked at and we completely fell in love with the place. The Brooks Chapel is absolutely breath-taking. We thought it was the perfect place for us to make our wedding vows to one another.”

Q: What wedding colour scheme did you choose?

A: “We chose a timeless and romantic blush pink, gold and ivory colour scheme. I wanted an elegant, lace gown. When I started dress shopping I struggled to find ‘the one’, then I discovered the Allure range. I chose a fit and flare gown with a fitted bodice and sweetheart neckline. It also had embellished detail, lace appliqué and English net. To me, it was the perfect dress, and it took my breath away! The bridesmaids wore a blush pink sweetheart maxi dress, and sparkly gold sandals from Dune.”

Q: What did you wear, Yasser?

A:  “I wore a navy blue three piece suit from Ted Baker, with a navy and pink polka dot tie from Thomas Pink, a Tiffany tie pin – a gift from Suzannah – Hudson tan brown brogues and a white shirt. The best men wore a navy blue three piece suits from Ted Baker, blush pink ties from Reiss, Hudson brogues and white shirts.”

Q: How did you choose your wedding photographer?

A: “We came across David West’s website and instantly fell in love with his photography. It was important for us to find a photographer we could trust to capture the wedding how we wanted to remember it. We chose David because his style is contemporary with a hint of classic – it’s reminiscent of something you’d see in a bridal magazine. When we met for the first time he was extremely approachable, and funny too!

Q: How did you arrive?

A: I surprised Yasser with a chauffeur driven Lamborghini Gallardo on the morning of the wedding (courtesy of Driving Sensation). The bridal party arrived in a matching set of vintage cars in navy and cream (courtesy of Exclusive Wedding Cars).

Q: Who took care of your wedding stationery?

A: Our stationery was designed and illustrated by Megan Rose and we used a specialist wedding calligrapher (Samantha Green) to craft our bespoke seating plan. The stationary followed our colour scheme of blush pink and ivory.

Q: Tell us about your flowers and cake…

A: We chose seasonal wedding flowers from Adam Prest, we trusted him to provide beautiful and inspirational flowers for our wedding and the end result was everything we hoped for and more. The designs were a little unconventional and included fruit, fur, mushrooms and feathers.

Our bespoke handmade wedding cake was of a classic, relaxed British tea style. It was adorned with a teapot and teacup, was vintage, quirky, elegant and classically British! The cake was created by Kelly Ann’s cakes, who was very patient with us while we came up with the final design!

Q: What about the food and wines?

A:  “We had a three-course wedding breakfast which included Roast Beef and it was absolutely delicious. We also chose a selection of Wynyard’s own wines – red, white and rosé plus sparkling wine for toasting. Lastly, for the evening reception, we all enjoyed a hog roast.”

Q: How did you entertain your guests?

A: We wanted to entertain our guests throughout both the afternoon and evening. We had a string quartet for our wedding ceremony along with an organist and choir. During our drinks reception we had a pianist and canapes for the guests. Then, into the evening a jazz duo / pocket orchestra performed. We also had a popcorn dispenser, caricaturist, magician, DJ and live band – there really was something for everyone.

We added a special touch with ‘Y and S’ letters, supplied by Coco Luminaire. These created the perfect backdrop to our evening do too.

Q: So, how would you rate Wynyard Hall as a wedding venue? Would you recommend it to another couple?

A: “We were overwhelmed by our wedding venue – it is simply incredible! Above all, the staff were impeccable and the opulent state rooms left our guests in awe. We would give Wynyard Hall a 10/10!”

Q: What was your favourite part of the day?

A: “The most unforgettable moment was reciting our vows to one another in the beautiful Chapel – we couldn’t stop smiling. We can finally call ourselves husband and wife.”

Q: Where did you go for your honeymoon?

A: We went to Ulusaba, Sir Richard Branson’s private game reserve located in Kruger National Park in South Africa. As soon as we stepped off the plane at their private air strip we knew this would be a safari experience like no other. We then spent 7 nights at the Westin Turtle Bay Resort & Spa located in a protected marine park off the north-west coast of Mauritius.  Here we got to experience Mauritian hospital in a truly stunning location!

Q: Do you have any tips for other couples who are getting married?

A: “On the big day itself, make sure the two of you take some time out to soak everything up. The day goes too quickly!”

Q: Lastly, how are things going for you both?

A: “We found out not long after the wedding that we were expecting a baby. For us, this was the perfect end to a fantastic year!”

We’d like to thank Suzannah and Yasser for their words – we enjoyed the day almost as much as they did. The couple’s meticulous attention to detail meant that together, we created a beautifully choreographed event, marking the start of the couple’s lifelong adventure together.
