What are your full names and age?
Joe Melville, 26, and Bethany Melville, 25.
How did you meet?
We met when Joe was 16 and Beth was 15. The Maid of honour introduced us at Club M, Tall Trees. A few months later we were official. Now, after 10-years, we are finally married.
Tell us about the proposal…
Joe proposed in August 2016, at Top of the Rock in New York. It was more than perfect! We had incredible views over the whole of New York and a photographer even captured the moment Joe got down on one knee and Beth said yes. Neither of us slept all that night, we were too busy on Facetime to our family and friends.
What made you choose Wynyard Hall?
When we got engaged we knew we wanted to book somewhere big and grand. The location was also important so we could have all out nearest and dearest there. Wynyard Hall was the first and last venue we looked at, as soon as we entered we were amazed and instantly knew this was the place we wanted to celebrate our marriage. All our other viewings we had scheduled got cancelled, for us nowhere would ever compare to Wynyard Hall.
What is your favourite room (i.e. Chapel / Mirror Room / Ballroom / Conservatory) and why?
Our favourite room was the conservatory, it is big, light and spacious. We had both our wedding breakfast and evening entertainment in there.
What colour scheme / theme / flowers did you choose?
Our wedding was very classic and timeless. We wanted clean lines and traditional. Therefore we stuck with a nude pink and gold theme.
What wedding menus did you choose? What was special about the food/service?
We chose to have Ham Hock to start, followed by Beef with seasonal veg and gravy and Sticky Toffee Pudding for desert. Beth is a massive Yorkshire pudding lover, and these were done to perfection. Everyone commented on how lovely the food was, including the evening buffet which consisted of chips, mini burgers, salad, sandwiches. An extra special touch was that the staff put some food into our room on the evening.
How many guests did you have?
We had 97 to the day and 120 to the evening.
What was your Wedding Coordinator like to work with? Were there any staff who particularly stood out on the day?
Ashleigh our wedding coordinator was amazing. She couldn’t do enough for us, and nothing was a problem. She made sure everything we wanted we got, there was no hesitation about it. We can’t thank her enough for how amazing she was.
What did you do the day/night before your Wedding?
We wanted to be traditional and have no contact with each other before the wedding. We left each other on the Friday dinner time. Beth went and got a blow dry from her friend at the Cutting Lounge, and spent the evening with her parents and bridesmaids. Joe spent the evening with his best man and ushers.
Tell us about the dress… What style was it? Where was it from? What did your bridesmaids wear?
Beth wore an Allure Mikado wedding dress with a belt and long tiered veil from Laura Day Middlesbrough. On the evening I took off my veil and added a tulle skirt which was made by the lovely ladies at Laura Day. I wore Jimmy Choo shoes. Joe surprised me and wrote on the bottom of my shoes, which was so nice to see on the morning.
The bridesmaids wore a long TNFC bridesmaid dress from TNFC.
What did the groom wear, and where was it from?
Joe wore a traditional black tux from Bakers tailoring. Joe stood out and wore a scoop waistcoat, whilst the other men wore braces.
Tell us about your wedding photos… which one was your favourite and why?
All our wedding photos are amazing, they really captured the day and the emotion. You can see how much we enjoyed ourselves and how special everything was. We love the first look father one, the emotion was very real. We absolutely adore the black and white ‘twirl’ photo which has the grand chandelier in the background.
Tell us about your entertainment…
Abi Alton sang in the church, she also did our first dance and father-daughter dance. It was amazing, a special extra and all our guests commented on how beautifully she sang.
For the reception Luke Howells magician supplied lots of entertainment and laughs for our guests.
On the evening we had the Phat Tyrtles band, they were incredible and got everyone up on the dance floor.
We also had a photo booth supplied by The Guest Booth. He was fantastic and we all got keyrings which is such a good reminder of the day.
And your honeymoon?
We jetted off to Mauritius on the Monday and spent 12 amazing nights there. Our days were spent laying on the beach, drinking cocktails and reminiscing over the best day of our lives. We also swam with wild dolphins, played with giant turtles and Joe played golf at a world champion course.
Was there anything extra special or unusual about your wedding?
Something which was very special to us was our memory table. We had photos of 3 very important people who couldn’t be there and we had one perfectly placed rose in the centre which matched my bouquet and Joe’s button hole. We placed it next to the top table so not only could we see it, but everyone could see them. Also on the evening we brought out 2 decanters with their favourite drinks so wedding guests could have a toast to the very important people who couldn’t be there.
Also, Joe is a massive car lover, so it was only right to do a self-drive. We choose a E Type Jaguar which Joe would drive to the church, then drive us to the venue. It was honestly amazing, and loved by everyone we spoke to.
Do you have any wedding planning tips?
We would just say enjoy the run up to the wedding and the day. It all goes so quickly, just savour every moment. Also book your photographer and videographer well in advance, do you research, watch videos and look in their albums. We took a while to find ours, but we believe we found the best. The photos and video are out of this world.
Would you recommend Wynyard Hall to other couples?
Absolutely, it was more than perfect. The staff, the grounds, the venue and the food just makes this venue truly special. We couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else, and we do not regret one thing.
