We were delighted to welcome Lizzie and Alan for their wedding at Wynyard Hall.
We asked the newly-weds to share their experience, and here’s how they felt about their big day…
Tell us about the proposal…
Alan proposed whilst we were on holiday in Milan. This was a huge surprise as we were there to watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monza. We had enjoyed a lovely meal to celebrate Alan’s birthday. Then on our walk back to our hotel we walked through the park at Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano. Before I knew it Alan was down on one knee with an open ring box in his hand. I was so shocked and overwhelmed but I managed to say YES through all the happy tears.
Tell us about the dress… What style was it? Where was it from?
My Mam and Sister came to visit me in London, we went to the National Wedding Show at Olympia. We looked around at all the exhibits and watched the main fashion show, it was great, I would recommend going to as many wedding shows as you can. I was so excited to try on wedding dresses.
The next day we had an appointment at Pronovias on Bond Street. I picked out 6 dresses I wanted to try on, I knew I wanted some kind of lace detail. I went in with an open mind I didn’t rule out any style. As soon as I tried my dress on I knew it was “The One”. It was a gorgeous ivory fishtail dress in embroidered tulle and Chantilly lace appliqués. What I loved the most was the off-the-shoulder neckline and three-quarter-length, Chantilly lace sleeves. It was so easy to wear, very light.
As we were getting married in the chapel I knew I wanted a veil. I chose a long one with Chantilly lace detail to match my dress.
Wynyard Chapel – very emotional. It’s rare to have such a historic and beautiful chapel attached to an amazing venue. I always dreamed about getting married in a church, Alan was thinking more practically about our guests having to travel from a church to our venue, so Wynyard Hall Ticked both of our boxes
Tell us about your cake…
When it came to the cake I really shopped around, had lots of tastings (which I wasn’t complaining about). I knew I wanted a 3 tier wedding cake but to accompany this I wanted a dessert table and pick and mix table. Sara from Sara’s Kitchen catered for all my needs. I met with her at her studio, when I arrived she had a plate full of yummy cake samples for me to try. All of her cakes were delicious she has so many flavours to choose from.
I chose to have 2 fruit layers (always a popular choice with guest) and a raspberry and white chocolate layer. The cake itself was a beautiful vintage inspired 3 tier wedding cake with a teapot on top. she also made cake toppers of myself and Alan. As a lovely little touch she also made a couples cake which was left in out bridal suite just for Alan and I to enjoy.
Tell us about your wedding photos… Who was your photographer?
Finding the right photographer was very high on my list, 2Tone Photography were the perfect choice for us. 2Tone Photography is a husband and wife team Nigel and Chrissy, not only were they a lovely couple but they captured every second of our wedding day perfectly. From our very first meeting with them to our big day itself they were very professional, friendly and fantastic at what they do.
We were invited to have an engagement test shoot with them a few weeks before our wedding day. We chose to go to Marsden beach, thankfully it was a lovely sunny morning. Nigel made us feel very comfortable in front of the camera and there were no forced or staged photos, all very natural. When our big day arrived Chrissy came to me in the morning and Nigel was with Alan so we didn’t miss any photo opportunity, little things like that were very important to us. I would not hesitate to recommend 2Tone Photography to anyone.
Alan planned the most amazing three week honeymoon. I had no idea where we were going. Flying from Gatwick to New York for four nights, we experienced as much as possible in the big apple, from Broadway shows to dollar slice pizza. Times Square is one of those moments you never forget, and it was the first place we visited after arriving late in the evening and being jet lagged!
Our next destination saw us head west to LA, where we stopped over for four nights, visiting Universal Studious, touring Beverly Hills and catching some rays at Santa Monica Pier. Being a lover of muscle cars, we rented a Ford Mustang convertible and headed to Sin City, back to our first holiday destination over seven years ago. The ride to Las Vegas is pretty easy going, we took in the beautiful surroundings before settling into our hotel for three nights of shows, fine dining and a little bit of drinking up at old Vegas!
After a fun pack and extremely adventurous two weeks we headed for Oahu, Hawaii. Here the plan was to sit back and relax, which is exactly what we did.
