HOW MANY GUESTS DID YOU HAVE?
We had 110 daytime guests altogether and an extra 30 in the evening.
We met each other when we were in our teens when we started to go out to town. Our families also knew each other so we would often speak when we bumped into each other when out. However, it wasn’t until years later at 23 we got together on a holiday in Ibiza when we were on holiday with our friends.
As we are both avid Game of Thornes fans we decided one year to book a holiday to Croatia because I (Rebecca ) was dying to see Kings Landing (a famous location on the series). On our first day, we had a look around and decided to book a nice meal for our second night. Charlie had researched a few restaurants and kept mentioning one called Panorama which you could only get to by cable car as it was set in the mountains and looked over the spectacular view of the Old City. On the second night, Charlie hinted that we should both wear something nice and make a proper night of it so we got dressed and headed for the restaurant. When we arrived we were early for our table so went to take some pictures of the views and this is where Charlie bent down on one knee and proposed at sunset. He is usually the least romantic person I know but definitely outdone himself on this day.
We actually have some photos of the whole thing that a random couple from South Korea took from their table and were watching at the time.
WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE WYNYARD HALL?
I always knew even before getting engaged that I wanted to get married at Wynyard. I remember showing Charlie and my Mum photos of a wedding I’d seen at Wynyard on social media and joking to them that I would get married there one day when Charlie popped the question. So when he eventually did, Wynyard was the first venue we viewed and it stole our hearts straight away. I remember Charlie and my Dad’s faces when we walked into the Chapel as they looked in admiration and both smiled at me.
It is hard to actually pick a favourite room because they are all so grand and luxurious and hold special memories to us. However, my favourite is probably the Ballroom. I love how high the ceilings are and the huge crystal chandeliers that light it up.
The colour scheme we chose was natural, nude shades that blended in with the décor in the ballroom. The girls all wore blush colour dresses which complimented the flowers on the day including the centrepieces and bouquets. Myself and my maid of honour, both had matching bouquets which were made up of cream and blush roses, gypsophila, hydrangea and delicate greenery, while the rest of the bridesmaids and flower girls had bouquets of gypsophila.
WHAT WEDDING MENU DID YOU CHOOSE?
Starter – Cheese Souffle, Main – Slow cooked beef feather blade in red wine sauce, Dessert – Strawberry and vanilla cheesecake
DID YOU DO ANYTHING SPECIAL ON THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR WEDDING?
The day before the wedding myself, the bridesmaids, my Mum and Charlie’s Mum all met at Wynyard around 4:00 and checked into our rooms. We had a couple of glasses of champagne before making our way along to the stables where we had a meal booked with Charlie and all the Groomsmen. After a few drinks together, the girls then headed back to Wynyard while the boys left and went to Hardwick Hall where they were staying the night.
My dress was designed by British designer Sassi Holford which I bought from Julia Tasker Bridal Couture. From being a little girl, I used to love watching old films with my Gran, with actresses like Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn and admiring their clothes. Therefore, on my wedding day, I always knew I wanted something plain, elegant and timeless. All of Sassi’s dresses reflect this style and her materials are second to none. I went for a strapless gown with a low back which was complimented with buttons that went all the way down the train. I decided to wear my hair in a high, simple bun teamed with an Alice band and floor-length veil. The Alice band was made by Julia from the same fabric as my dress.
The girls all wore dresses from ASOS which I actually bought before my own. They were a soft blush colour with a high neckline and flared, pleated skirt. I then bought them all diamante belts which gave the dresses that tiny bit of glam but still kept them classy.
Finally, the two flower girls dresses were made and designed by my talented Mum who has been a seamstress all her life. I love Royal Weddings and the elegant, traditional style they adopt. I remember showing my Mum pictures of Kate and Williams flower girls and saying we need to design something similar. We bought cream, Mikado material similar to my dress and paired it with a simple belt that went into a bow at the back. They looked so gorgeous and their dresses went perfect with the style of the venue.
WHAT DID THE GROOM WEAR, AND WHERE WAS IT FROM?
Charlie, my Dad and the Groomsmen all wore black tuxedos which were from Moss Brothers. Charlie decided to pick this style suit as it went perfectly with the venue and again felt it was timeless. To make himself stand out he changed the buttons on his shirt to black and wore a blush rose buttonhole while the others wore white.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR WEDDING PHOTOS… WHICH ONE WAS YOUR FAVOURITE AND WHY?
We decided to go with 2tone photography for our photos and we couldn’t have made a better decision. Nigel and Christina knew the venue inside out and made me and Charlie feel totally at ease on the day. They knew every single angle, shot and lighting to choose from. From the minute Chrissy came in to see me on the morning, she made me feel like I had nothing to worry about. Even our guests commented on how relaxed they made people feel while making group shots enjoyable and funny. There are so many photos we love but a personal favourite is of myself and Charlie out the front both laughing into the distance. My Dad loves this photo too as Charlie has one hand in his pocket making it’s such a natural shot.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR ENTERTAINMENT…
Both our families are huge lovers of Motown and soul music and we have both been brought up to this. We wanted a band that got all our friends and family up dancing so found a local band called Soulville who sing all great hits. I don’t think the dance floor was ever empty! They were fantastic, and the atmosphere was amazing. They even got my cousin’s little boy up at one point to help sing Mrs Jones. I can’t recommend them enough.
WHERE DID YOU BOTH JET OFF TO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON?
We flew off to Mykonos a couple of days after the wedding. We stayed for 5 nights before then heading to Lindos in Rhodes for 10 nights.
DO YOU HAVE ANY WEDDING PLANNING TIPS?
Enjoy every minute!! We booked our wedding almost two years before thinking it seemed so long away however the time really does fly over. Enjoy the stress and little decisions over which cake supplier you should go with or flowers to pick because you will soon miss the little things.
100%. If you want a breathtaking, grand venue with luxurious rooms and amazing staff and service then Wynyard is the venue for you.
Our wedding co-ordinator Clare was amazing to work with. She went above and beyond to make sure the day was going to be perfect. She recommended suppliers and was always there to help on the build-up to the wedding, replying to emails promptly and helping the best she could.
On the day of the wedding we couldn’t have got through it without the help of Carl our Master of Ceremonies. His help wasn’t just noticed by ourselves but by many family members and guests. He made both myself and Charlie feel at ease and led us through each part of the day perfectly.
