Hannah, 26 and Michael, 30, married at Wynyard Hall this Spring. With over 130-day guest and additional 50 guests consisting of friends and family, Wynyard Hall was the perfect size for all to unite and celebrate Hannah and Micahel’s special day.
CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT HOW YOU MET AND THE PROPOSAL?
In a pizza shop one night, ironic since that is Michael’s favourite food. Just like he said in his speech; pizza and a gorgeous girl, what more could a boy want!
He proposed on the beach on Friday 13th September 2017 in a small town called Torre La Mata, about 40 minutes from Alicante. It is a place close to both of our hearts, where we often stay in my Aunty Sharon and late Uncle Kevin’s apartment. It was the most magical evening. We sat and had sangrias at the beach bar afterwards.
WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE WYNYARD HALL?
I remember us visiting Wynyard Hall for the first time, we were both blown away. The atmosphere, the decor, the high ceilings, the beautiful stained glass windows and the views were just amazing. Each time I visit Wynyard Hall, I get that wave of emotion and feel a ‘lump in my throat’. We found ourselves comparing everywhere to Wynyard hall. It has beauty, character, class and the most amazing views!
Michaels favourite room would be between the Statue Gallery because of the amazing stained glass windows and the Ballroom because it has so much character. My favourite would be The Conservatory because of how much light it holds, the beautiful windows and the views from there.
There were 133-day guests and roughly 50 evening guests. We both have huge families which we love and wanted to celebrate with them all. We had our wedding breakfast in the conservatory because the ballroom was not big enough to cater for that amount of people. Our evening buffet was in the ballroom- that way, we had the best of both worlds.
We decided on a spring flower theme with bright pastel colours which were also printed on the invites, our wedding boards, name cards, gin favour bottles, guest book, and reflected on our beautiful cake. Michael and I both love gin, so each table was named after a different gin, ours being Steel River, a local Middlesbrough gin.
We had a mixture of flowers including hydrangeas, peonies, roses, veronica, delphiniums, gypsophila and lots of greenery. The flower arrangements on the tables looked spectacular and so elegant. They really brightened up the room. Spring is such a beautiful time of year, with beautiful flowers, and May is often the start of summer with glorious weather.
We picked out our favourite colour for the men’s ties and bridesmaid dresses. The girls wore a beautiful bright cornflower blue dress with matching ties for the men.
WHAT WEDDING MENU DID YOU CHOOSE?
We attended a pre-wedding taster meal a few months before the wedding with both parents. We decided on tomato and red pepper soup for starter, chicken breast with truffles, served with creamy gratin potatoes and fine beans for the main course (with 3 of the wedding party opting for venison steak served with rosti potatoes), and sticky toffee pudding for dessert – of course!
For our evening food, we chose the Italian option, which included pizzas and a selection of meats. It was delicious and our guests loved it!
I stayed at my parent’s house and had a celebratory bottle of prosecco with my Mam. Michael had a night at the pub with the men.
TELL US ABOUT THE DRESS… WHAT STYLE WAS IT? WHERE WAS IT FROM? WHAT DID YOUR BRIDESMAIDS WEAR?
My dress was Kenneth Winston style 1783. It was a fit and flare lace dress, covered in tiny beads and pearls, and lined with the most beautiful lace. I had my veil made with matching lace from the dress. It was the most beautiful dress, and I loved every minute of wearing it. I bought it from Darcy Bridal in Newcastle. I was the first person to buy the dress so it has been named after me, Hannah. My headpiece was from Debenhams and also called Hannah. It was fate!
My bridesmaids were in a cornflower blue dress from Chi Chi. I knew they were the perfect dresses when I saw them. The dresses complimented my dress so much and happened to be the same blue as the dress my mam had bought.
The groom and the men in the wedding party wore a checked navy suit from Debenhams.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR ENTERTAINMENT…
We had Abi Alton play the piano and sing during our reception. She has the most beautiful voice and was a real hit with our guests! We also had Paul Lytton, the magician on the day who interacted with most of our tables during the wedding breakfast. He was fantastic. We heard roars of laughter coming from some of the tables which is always lovely to hear. For the children, we set out a play area underneath the big bay window in the ballroom which occupied some of our younger guests. On the night, we surprised our guests with an amazing fireworks display and giant sparklers from G2 Fireworks. It just topped our day off and finished it with an extra special touch!
Joel Skingle was our photographer. With 2486 photos to choose from, it is very difficult. Looking through the wedding images brings so much emotion each time. All the photos we received were of such high quality, and they help us relive the day again. We both love the picture underneath the chandelier in the lobby. It is unique and has so much class and elegance. I also love the close-up images of our faces outside the hall. We wanted the photos to be natural. We were extremely impressed with Joel’s work!
WHERE DID YOU BOTH JET OFF TO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON?
Meeru Island in the Maldives… say no more! It was the most beautiful, relaxing and romantic place we have ever visited. We stayed in a jacuzzi water villa, which had steps going down into the ocean. We received complimentary champagne in our room on more than one occasion. From the moment we arrived on the island, everything was complete luxury!
Was there anything extra special or unusual about your wedding?
During the speeches, my dad (father of the bride) surprised us both with a short video that he had put together which was displayed on a big screen next to the top table. It showed me growing up, meeting Michael, and the life events we had shared so far including our first house together, and getting engaged.
After our first dance as husband and wife, I had a father-daughter dance with my dad. We had put together a breakout dance which started with ‘I Loved Her First’ by Heartland, and broke into the MFC anthem (pig bag), Saturday Night Fever, Bollywood, Thriller and Everybody Dance Now. It was such a special moment!
DO YOU HAVE ANY WEDDING PLANNING TIPS?
Yes, try to organise everything you can as far in advance as possible. Leave your last few weeks leading up to the wedding free to enjoy the build-up. Spend the night before the wedding doing something you love, with people you love.
Yes, we both wish we could do it all over again. Wynyard Hall was the perfect setting for us, and the views surrounding the hall are just as beautiful as inside.
All the staff and the wedding coordinators were wonderful! We had more than one wedding coordinator during our wedding planning at Wynyard Hall. Each planner we dealt with were amazing and very helpful. We were extremely impressed with our first wedding coordinator, Ashley, who we got on with really well. She received a well-deserved promotion!
