Anju and Jamie tied the knot this Spring with a stunning fusion wedding that united both cultures and families. With 79 guests and additional 15 guests joining the festivities in the evening, Wynyard Hall provided the perfect and personal backdrop to their special day.
CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT HOW YOU MET AND THE PROPOSAL?
We met online through Tinder.
Anju was away with her parents in Portugal and I joined them for a weekend. We went for a day out to the coast and after clambering over some rocks to find a nice view, Anju presented me with a box titled ‘Ten things I love about you’. After working my way through them the bottom of the box read “Jamie will you marry me?”. And the rest is history…
WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE WYNYARD HALL?
With my parents living in Wynyard, the Hall has been my dream venue for a long time. It is beautiful with idyllic surroundings. Jamie and I have visited the hall on a few occasions for dinner and afternoon tea and have always been impressed by its interior and exterior. It is a breath-taking venue and definitely has the wow-factor and is by far the best venue with visited. I first viewed it for a potential wedding venue with my Mum and as soon as we both saw the rooms set up it gave us goosebumps and we knew it was the perfect place. Luckily Jamie also loved it too! We were so pleased to have the perfect venue for our perfect day.
Our favourite of the rooms is The Conservatory. It is a very unique room to hold a reception in compared to other venues. It is beautiful, bright and spacious. The glass roof over the dance floor is a lovely feature and adds to the feel of its original purpose. At night the fairy lights on the pillars and the bar lights give the room a charming ambience.
TELL US ALL ABOUT YOUR WEDDING! WHAT COLOUR SCHEME, THEME AND FLOWERS DID YOU CHOOSE?
Our wedding was a fusion of both of our cultures with both Indian and English influences. As I was wearing a traditional red Indian dress I wanted our colour scheme to contrast that and therefore chose cream and gold. My bridesmaids wore cream and gold sarees. Our flowers (Flowers By Nattrass) were a mixture of creams, whites and greenery. Our cake also followed the colour scheme. Overall, the colours complimented each other well.
WHAT WEDDING MENU DID YOU CHOOSE?
Our starter was the chicken and leek terrine followed up the rump of spring lamb. For dessert, we had sticky toffee pudding. The meal was delicious. Wynyard Hall were very accommodating to the variety of dietary requirements for our guests. We were very grateful for this.
DID YOU DO ANYTHING SPECIAL ON THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR WEDDING?
I had dinner in Wynyard Golf Club with my family and bridesmaids. Jamie stayed at our home in Durham and went out for dinner and drinks with his best man and closest friends.
TELL US ABOUT THE DRESS… WHAT STYLE WAS IT? WHERE WAS IT FROM? WHAT DID YOUR BRIDESMAIDS WEAR?
I wore a custom-made Indian dress which was ordered from Bombay Stores in Bradford. It was traditional colours of red and gold and I absolutely loved it. My Bridesmaids wore cream and gold sarees which were also from Bombay Stores, they all looked stunning in them.
Jamie and the groomsmen wore a mid grey, three-piece Ted Baker suit hired from Moss Bros.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR ENTERTAINMENT…
We had an acoustic guitarist for our ceremony drinks reception called Seth. He is very talented and has an amazing voice.
In the evening we had a band called ‘The Playlist’ who played lots of feel-good music and got all our guests on the dance floor. We also had a Bollywood DJ who played a mix of Bollywood and chart music to suit our guest and kept the party going until late. Our band and Bollywood DJ were booked through Warble Entertainment.
We also hired a Magic Mirror. A unique twist on a photo booth. I booked this as a surprise for Jamie and it definitely went down well with both him and our guests.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR WEDDING PHOTOS… WHICH ONE WAS YOUR FAVOURITE AND WHY?
Our wedding photographer was Nigel Playle. He captured our day perfectly. Jamie and I are not naturals in front of the camera however Nigel made us feel very much at ease and actually made our photos very enjoyable. He also captured candid moments throughout our day with our guests which was exactly what we wanted.
We have so many favourite photos, this is one of them. We love how it captures the grandeur of Wynyard Hall.
WHERE DID YOU BOTH JET OFF TO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON?
Our honeymoon was absolutely amazing. We went to South Africa and Mauritius. We spent 4 days exploring the beautiful city of Cape Town. The top of Table Mountain gave a stunning view of the city. We also went to Boulders Beach to see the penguins. We enjoyed many evenings at The V&A Waterfront sipping delicious wine and enjoying the amazing backdrop of Table Mountain. Following this we went on a 3-day safari at Pumba game reserve, this was definitely a bucket list moment seeing all the amazing animals in their natural habitats. Our final week was spent in beautiful Mauritius, we explored the stunning scenery across the island and also relaxed on the beautiful idyllic beaches. Our honeymoon was definitely a trip of a lifetime!
DO YOU HAVE ANY WEDDING PLANNING TIPS?
Planning is the key. Make a list of everything you would like and estimate a budget. We under-budgeted for a lot of things initially however as we booked things well in advance, we had time to work it into our budget. Making spreadsheets and keeping them up to date is very helpful. Most importantly, try and enjoy it!! Try not to get too stressed, planning your wedding should be fun and when you are feeling overwhelmed remember it is going to be the best day of your lives regardless!
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND WYNYARD HALL TO OTHER COUPLES PLANNING A FUSION WEDDING?
Yes, yes, yes, we would definitely recommend Wynyard Hall!
The wedding team are fantastic. We started our wedding planning with Ashleigh and Rebecca took over 4 months before our wedding date. Both wedding coordinators were absolutely fantastic. They are both lovely, approachable people and have excellent knowledge in their field. They were both able to help answer any of our queries and provide advice and recommendations. It was a pleasure to work with them both.
Our Master of ceremonies, Ian, was also a pleasure to work with on the day of our wedding. He ensured everything was perfect for us and helped put us at ease throughout the day.
