Real Wedding: Alyson & Callum’s Dream Wedding

Callum Anderson (27) a Software Engineer from Whitley Bay, and Alyson Allday (28) a volunteer, from Peterlee, tied the knot with their dream romantic wedding at Wynyard Hall.

With 50 main guests and 150 evening guests, Wynyard Hall provided the perfect backdrop for this bride and groom to celebrate with their closest friends and family in luxury.

CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT HOW YOU MET?

Callum and I met each other at school when we were about 16 years old. I didn’t particularly like Callum when we first met. Our love blossomed after leaving school as we spent more time with each other even though we went to different colleges. Callum never stopped liking me and always wanted to spend time with me. After several years of friendship, we took things to the next level and started dating each other and since then we have never parted.

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL…

I got a nice surprise when Callum took me to Paris during the week of Valentine’s Day. On Valentine’s Day, he had booked us on a dinning river cruise along the Seine which was lovely. It was during this river cruise that he proposed to me. We went passed the Eiffel Tower, and I couldn’t stop crying as it was such an emotional night and I could not have been any happier.

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE WYNYARD HALL AS YOUR DREAM WEDDING LOCATION?

It was the best venue we’ve been to! The drive- up to the venue is breath-taking. I got emotional when I walked through the doors to see the stained-glass window in the statue gallery. The Ballroom was perfect for our ceremony and the mirror room was perfect for our wedding breakfast. The conservatory was also perfect for the guests on the evening and night time, everything was perfect, and we got the wedding we wanted. We also love the lake at the back of Wynyard Hall as it is tranquil and peaceful.

TELL US ALL ABOUT YOUR WEDDING! WHAT COLOUR SCHEME, THEME AND FLOWERS DID YOU CHOOSE?

We couldn’t decide on a colour scheme, but everyone usually talks about white weddings, so I decided to make the colour theme Ivory. I didn’t want my bridesmaid in white, of course, only the bride should wear white. Because of this, I thought she would look stunning in a blush pink dress. I also added a touch of pink in my bouquet of flowers to match with the dress of my maid of honour.

WHAT WEDDING MENU DID YOU CHOOSE?

For the starter we had fishcake or liver pate, for the main course we had a traditional Sunday roast or salmon, for the sorbet we had raspberry or lemon sorbet and for dessert we had raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake or lemon tart. We decided on these choices because we liked them and we thought the majority of our guests would like them too.

WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING COORDINATOR LIKE TO WORK WITH?

We would definitely say that Clare is a fantastic wedding coordinator! She always puts a smile on our faces because she is amazing at what she does. She was so supportive in our decisions and she helped us a big amount by making our dream wedding the perfect fairy tale wedding. We couldn’t have asked for a better person to coordinate our wedding.

DID YOU DO ANYTHING SPECIAL ON THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR WEDDING?

Running around like a headless chicken getting everything prepared at my house, getting my wedding dress out ready for the wedding day and choosing the jewellery I wanted to wear. After everything was sorted I wanted to chill and have a glass of bubbly while pampering myself with my maid of honour.

TELL US ABOUT THE DRESS… WHAT STYLE WAS IT? WHERE WAS IT FROM? WHAT DID YOUR BRIDESMAIDS WEAR?

The wedding dress I envisaged was an A-line ball gown not too puffy but not too slim, very simple and elegant with lace around the train and lace on the top half. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would get the dress I had been dreaming of. Whilst looking for the perfect dress, every wedding shop I tried kept saying I’ve got something similar, but it wasn’t right.

The last bridal shop I tried was in Wingate, a shop called Exclusively Yours. As I entered the shop I was thinking to myself this is the last shop I have to try and if I don’t find the dress of my dreams here then I will have to go back to one of the shops I have previously visited and settle for a less than perfect wedding dress. After entering the shop, I picked out a few dresses myself, but nothing was working for me. Then I told the lady about the dress I had pictured in my head, she then handed me a dress which she thought best matched. The dress she handed me didn’t look like anything special on the hanger but when I placed it on I felt overwhelmed, I was buzzing as I knew this was the one and I didn’t care what anyone said or thought as it was the perfect dress of my dreams.

My bridesmaid was in a beautiful blush pink long gown, I was very happy with what she wore. Having only one bridesmaid made things a lot easier, at least I only had to make one person happy.

WHAT DID CALLUM WEAR, AND WHERE WAS IT FROM?

Callum wore a smart classical three-piece suit from Gavin Scott Menswear in Washington. The suit comprised of a white shirt, grey dress trousers, a spiral ivory waistcoat, a grey suit jacket with an ivory tie and an ivory handkerchief. He finished the suit off with black dress shoes.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR WEDDING PHOTOS… WHICH ONE WAS YOUR FAVOURITE AND WHY?

Our wedding photography was taken by Dave Webb and his wife Judy. Our favourite photo is the one with the lake and Wynyard Hall in the background where we are on top of a hill gazing into each other’s eyes.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR ENTERTAINMENT…

Entertainment was provided by the magician Paul Lytton, he was fantastic, and our guests have never stopped talking about him.

WHERE DID YOU BOTH JET OFF TO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON?

Our honeymoon was a holiday to never forget. We went to Costa Rica. After we landed we got the chance to sit in the cockpit of our plane and the captain took a photo of us. The atmosphere was amazing, the people were very kind and the food was to die for. There were cheeky monkeys and racoons like fluffy teddy bears. The pools within the hotel we stayed were very clean and inviting as the weather was extremely hot and humid.

While on our honeymoon we had many fun and exciting excursions including white water rafting, trekking to see a waterfall and fishing on a boat. To wind down we had a romantic sunset dinner on the beach this was a perfect and very memorable moment. Also, on one of the mornings, we had breakfast in bed which was very nice. By far the main highlight of our honeymoon was the animals who lived in the rainforest that surrounded our hotel.

WAS THERE ANYTHING SPECIAL OR UNUSUAL ABOUT YOUR DAY?

Yes, my maid of honour decided to fall over while she was trying to catch the bouquet of flowers, it was hilarious. Everything was special about our wedding from me walking down the aisle to the first dance.

DO YOU HAVE ANY WEDDING PLANNING TIPS?

Yes, make a list of everything you need to arrange/buy and create spreadsheets to allow you to track schedules so you know what things you have to do and when you have to do them. Spreadsheets are also very useful for working out costs and help you to stick to your budget. Make sure to estimate everything to ensure you stick to your budget. Enjoy every single moment of planning your wedding because when it comes to your wedding day it will flash before your eyes. Don’t let anyone change your mind regarding your ideas/plans for your wedding. Most of all remember weddings are all about the bride and groom and if anyone disagrees with your decisions, just remind them it’s your wedding, not theirs. STICK TO YOUR PLAN!
