Advice for the Groom

Are you engaged and ready to tie the knot to your bride-to-be? Clare, Wynyard Hall’s Senior Wedding Coordinator is here with her top advice for every groom to ensure a smooth transition between Fiancé to Husband.

Be sure to get involved in the wedding planning

Planning a wedding is a stressful time and we see many Brides take on the task of organising the full say themselves. Your future bride will be grateful for your involvement in the planning of your big day. Either help with everything or take control of one area. Many grooms opt for areas such as the music and entertainment, collation of the rsvp’s or organisation of the wedding favours.

A Gift from Groom to Bride

Arrange for a special gift to be delivered to the Bride on the morning of the wedding. Whether it be her favourite perfume or the perfume that you very first bought her, a bouquet of flowers, bottle of champagne, diamond necklace, something special to tie in her bouquet or something silly that you both will find funny but meaningful.

Quirky ways for the Groom to arrive at the Hall

The bride shouldn’t have all the fun. Why not arrive at The Hall in a fun and quirky way? We’ve had groom’s turn up in everything from vintage buses to sports cars.

Arrive at the venue one hour prior to the ceremony

Be sure to arrive at the venue at least one hour prior to the ceremony. Use the time to get settled in and have some photographs taken whilst welcoming guests with drinks. Have a drink with your guests prior to the ceremony but remember that if your registrar/minister feels you have had too much to drink they will not marry you.

The Ceremony

It’s normal for all grooms to be overcome with nerves and excitement as your bride approaches. Once she reaches you, it’s important to remember to shake the hand of the father of the bride before they give her away.

groomPersonalise your clothing

Make your wedding day extra special with some personalised clothing. Why not write a message on the underside of your shoes or have something special stitched into the inside of your suit jacket. Not only is it a great memento but it also makes a great talking point in your speech.

Plan, Plan, PLAN

Speaking of your wedding speech be sure to plan your speech well in advance! Have bullet points on prompt cards just in case but try and revise on the lead up to the big day. Be sure to thank all those that helped make your big day special. Be sure to thank your parents, in law’s, bridesmaids and your best man.
