The Baby (Shower) Boom

Celebrating a baby shower at Wynyard Hall

‘Nobody deserves a party more than an expectant Mummy’, and this sentiment is clearly echoed throughout Durham, Tees Valley and beyond, by the amount of Baby Shower’s Wynyard Hall has been delighted to host recently! As experienced Event Coordinators, we always love to hear from expectant mothers, along with their family and friends, as they begin the process of planning a Baby Shower. We always work closely with our clients to create a fun and fabulous day that mums-to-be and guests will never forget.
Amy from Norton is our most recent mum-to-be. The celebration was held on the 22nd July. She has been to our lakeside spa, had Afternoon Tea in the library and attended our New Year’s Eve Gala ball, so we were thrilled to hear that Wynyard Hall was her number one choice of venue for a baby shower. Here is Amy’s story…


Amy and Jane have been best friends forever, and as you can see they are sharing their pregnancy experience together… There is just 3 weeks between their due dates!


Amy has no idea what the gender of her baby will be (note the pink and blue balloons), what a lovely surprise!


Firstly, what was your favourite thing about your baby shower?

My favourite part of the day was having all my close family and friends together celebrating. We were lucky because we were a large group, we were given a private stateroom at no extra cost.

Furthermore, my in-laws were visiting all the way from Sheffield, having never been to Wynyard Hall before they were awestruck by its grandeur and the quality of the venue.


Why did you choose Wynyard Hall to celebrate your special occasion?

We chose Wynyard Hall because there is something unique and extra special about the venue. Above all, guests didn’t have too far to travel, and it’s easy to get to from the A19 and A1M with no tricky parking issues to consider.


What did you have to eat and drink?

We all enjoyed afternoon tea. Mum had also arranged for guests to be greeted with a welcome drink. My 10-year-old niece loved the children’s afternoon tea, which included a tasty chocolate milkshake!


Please tell us about anything that stood out about your experience:

The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The room was absolutely stunning and my mum and friends made it look extra special with lovely decorations. It was a lovely memorable afternoon and lots of people commented on the venue and how it was a really lovely experience.


Lastly, Would you hold future events with us?

Yes, definitely!

Finally, we would like to share some tips and suggestions for other expectant mothers planning baby showers. If you are looking for some games to entertain your guests, why not give these a go?

Baby Shower Games and Inspiration

Who’s Who?
Each guest brings a baby photo of themselves and pins it to a board or hangs it on a string. It is then down to the mum-to-be to match the photo to the right friend!

Mums the word
A fun game and great ice breaker – let all your guests know that for the duration of the baby shower, they aren’t allowed to say the word ‘baby’. Keep a tally and the people who don’t say it / say it the least, win a prize!

Guess the mum’s measurements
Take a ball of wool, and each guest has to cut off a piece of string that they think is the same size as the expectant Mother’s bump! The person who guesses the closest size wins!

Something naughty…and something nice
Everyone loves bubbles and its always nice for those who aren’t expecting to celebrate the event with a glass of something ‘naughty’. For those who aren’t able to drink, why not try and non-alcoholic fizzy cocktail such as an Elderflower or Strawberry Fizz?

Takeaway Bouquets
Kill two birds with one stone with takeaway bouquets! Create awe-inspiring bouquets for the tables and encourage guests to take them home as favours after the event. You can create extra bouquets and decorate the serving table with them to make sure that each guest goes home with flowers!


Wynyard Hall is the perfect venue for baby showers of 10 – 40 guests. Choose from delicious lunch and dinner menus, afternoon tea, or chef can create something bespoke. We also have a fabulous selection of canapés, wine, Prosecco, Champagne and cocktails for arrival drinks and nibbles. Each celebration gets an experienced, dedicated Event Coordinator, who will guide the client through each step of the planning process. The Event Coordinator will work closely with Wynyard Hall’s chefs and operations team to make sure the day runs seamlessly.
