Private Chapel
As a building licensed by the Church of England, The 18th Century Chapel at Wynyard Hall provides a truly magnificent venue, where up to 160 guests may witness your marriage ceremony.
Requirements for the Ceremony
Either the bride or groom, or their parents, should be resident in one of the parishes within the jurisdiction of the Vicar of Grindon Parish to which Wynyard Chapel is linked. These are: Bishopton, Great Stainton, Grindon, Redmarshall, Stillington & Wolviston.
If a residency link can not be established, it may still be possible to use the Chapel provided the bride and groom attend a church within one of the designated parishes, or Wynyard Chapel’s public service, at least once per month for a six months period prior to the Marriage Banns being read (nine months period prior to the wedding date itself).
We unfortunately are unable to conduct Chapel Wedding Ceremonies on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
Arranging the Ceremony
Once the provisional booking is made with Wynyard Hall for your chosen date your wedding coordinator will refer all your details to the vicar of Grindon Parish for confirmation that the ceremony may proceed. You will then be contacted by the Vicar or his representative with further details.
Although Wynyard Hall wedding co-ordinator can give the basic information on qualifying for the marriage, all ceremonies would be subject to acceptance by the Vicar of Grindon Parish.
Ceremony Fees
A fee is charged by Wynyard Hall Ltd for the use of the Chapel for the ceremony. Additional charges will be incurred depending on the ‘domestic’ arrangements you may require in the Chapel.
There is also a Church Fee that is paid directly to the Six Parishes and will be invoiced to the bride and groom by the Church representative.
Civil Ceremony
Wynyard Hall has two magnificently appointed State Rooms, licenced by Stockton Borough Council, one of which is certain to provide a truly romantic setting for your ceremony. Ball Room and Mirror Room.
Arranging the Ceremony
Once your chosen date is provisionally booked with Wynyard Hall, please contact the Registrar at Stockton Borough Council to discuss their requirements and book the ceremony. Your local area Registrar will then need to be informed of your arrangements. The Registrar will discuss all required details directly with you.
If in doubt, please discuss the timings for the ceremony with the Wedding Co-Ordinator before making a booking with the Registrar.
Please note, though a provisional booking can be made with Stockton Registrar’s Office well in advance of the wedding day, your local Registrar can only confirm your booking within 12 months of the chosen date.
Requirements for the Ceremony
The Registrar will advise whether photography and / or video recording can take place during the ceremony.
Readings and music may be included in the ceremony provided there are no references of a religious nature.
Please consult the Registrar to ensure the acceptability of an item for inclusion.
Members of the general public may only be excluded from attending a ceremony if there are sufficient invited guests to reach the maximum permitted number of persons for your chosen room.
Ceremony Fees
A fee is charged by Wynyard Hall Ltd for the use of the chosen room for the ceremony. Additional charges may be incurred depending on the ‘domestic’ arrangements you may require in the room.
The Registrar’s fees are paid directly to Stockton Borough Council and will be advised to you at the time of booking the ceremony with the Registrar’s Office.
