Chapel Ceremony

As a building licensed by the Church of England, The Chapel at Wynyard Hall provides
a truly magnificent venue where up to 160 guests may witness your marriage ceremony.

Church Residency Requirement

Either the bride or groom, or their parents, should be resident in one of the parishes within the jurisdiction of the Vicar of Grindon Parish to which Wynyard is linked. These are: Bishopton, Great Stainton, Grindon, Redmarshall, Stillington & Wolviston.

If a residency link can not be established it may be still possible to use the Chapel provided the bride and/or groom attends a church within one of the designated parishes, or Wynyard Chapel’s public service, at least once or twice per month for a 6 month period prior to the Marriage Banns being read. Marriage Banns, the public declaration of the intended marriage, are usually formally announced on three successive Sundays during the final three months prior to the wedding. The Banns are read in the Parish Church of both the bride and groom and at the Grindon Parish Church.

Arranging the Ceremony

Once your entitlement to use the Chapel has been established a provisional booking can be made at which time our Management will refer all your details to the Vicar of Grindon Parish for confirmation that the ceremony may proceed. Following confirmation from the Vicar your detailed arrangements may be made.

The Marriage Ceremony

Where neither the bride nor groom are resident in one of the six qualifying parishes, the Minister from their local parish will be contacted by the Vicar of Grindon Parish and invited to undertake the ceremony at Wynyard.

Members of other Anglican denominations may be married in the Chapel in which instance their own clergyman will be invited to assist the Church of England priest who will lead the service. Wynyard’s management will be pleased to guide you through all the necessary formalities that will establish your entitlement to be married in the Chapel.
