A showcase of delicate artistry, The Gardens are the epitome of beauty, with vivid flowerbeds, over 3,000 stunning roses, from floribundas and climbing roses to the statement English rose , and a careful selection of shrubs and trees, highlighted with graceful water features and meandering paths.

The Gardens have been intricately designed and created by multi RHS award-winning landscape architect Alistair Baldwin, along with rose expert Michael Marriott from David Austin Roses and Wynyard Hall’s own dedicated team of gardeners.

From the moment they were first developed in 1822, The Gardens have offered a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. They were originally created by William Sawrey Gilpin who crafted gently curved flowerbeds, raised terrace walks, irregularly shaped shrubberies, and winding paths to form beautiful shapes within the landscape.

Wynyard Hall’s rose gardens have exceeded expectations of visitor numbers within the first year of opening and are fast becoming one of the North East’s leading visitor attractions – with much to see and do, it’s easy to see why.

The accompanying café is the perfect place to meet with friends and enjoy a hot drink with a piece of homemade cake. It also serves a hot dish of the day, a selection of fresh sandwiches, quiche, breakfast rolls, scones, pastries and a selection of wines and beers. The Gardens are also home to an impressive Farm Shop filled with the finest locally sourced, handmade and artisan produce the North East has to offer including handmade confectionery, cheese, local sausages, craft beers, homeware, gifts, books, gardening accessories and much, much more.
